EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process traumatic or distressing experiences that may still feel overwhelming in the present.
Our minds have a natural ability to heal, much like our bodies do. This healing often happens during sleep, particularly during REM sleep, when the brain processes memories and emotions. EMDR was developed by Francine Shapiro in 1987 and is based on this natural process. It was originally used to treat PTSD and is now widely recognised as an effective treatment for a range of psychological difficulties, including:
-
Anxiety and panic
-
Depression
-
Stress
-
Phobias
-
Complicated Grief
-
Addiction
I use EMDR within a relational and trauma-informed therapeutic framework, placing strong emphasis on safety, preparation, and working at a pace that feels right for you. EMDR can be offered as a focused piece of work or integrated into longer-term psychotherapy, depending on your needs and goals.
