Frequently asked questions
As I’ve mentioned previously, I would not embrace the skills I offer if I didn’t have awareness first hand that they work. In some cases, talking therapies have been known to be more beneficial that medicine and I often see clients walk out of therapy with Improved confidence, less reactive, greater sense of self, wellbeing, and less physical discomfort. In my view anyone can benefit from therapy and everyone should try it, at least once.
Counselling is a very individual process, and the length of time people are in therapy depends on many vary factors. These include the environment someone has experienced or is in, and traumas they have faced. How much support they have around them, physical and mental health, social and economic factors. I will work with every client to ensure they get the time and support that’s right for them.
During the initial consultation we may gather an idea of what we need to work on, and regular reviews can help to gauge how much further we must go.
My experience is that it becomes an organic, natural process until suddenly, the client doesn’t need me anymore. It’s the one profession where my aim is to make myself redundant.
By choosing a therapist that is registered with a professional body you can be reassured that they have met the standards of training and experience required by that organisation. Most organisations will have a code of ethics that outlines the way their members will work within. Being registered with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation. This is received on a yearly basis to ensure standards are maintained.
I would encourage anyone to explore different options. Many counsellors will offer a brief introduction for free which provides that chance to meet and see who you would be working with. As I’ve repeated previously, the relationship with the counsellor is the biggest medium for change, so please explore and see who’s out there, meet a couple of people and think about what suits you best.

"I came to counselling feeling slightly nervous about being able to open up and frightened about being judge, straight away you made me relaxed and gave me courage to talk about the things that have happened to me."
