Young People Therapy

(from the age of 11)

For parents or carers, it can feel overwhelming to know how best to support a young person or to take the first step towards therapy. For this reason, I encourage parents/carers and young people to meet with me initially. An initial consultation can take place before any direct work with the young person begins. This offers us the opportunity to explore how we can best support your child and to reflect on aspects of the past that may have contributed to how they are feeling now.

When working with young people, I take a relational approach and provide a safe, supportive space to help make sense of what can often be a confusing and challenging time. As adults, we can place high expectations on young people and sometimes forget that they are navigating a period of significant emotional, physical, and neurological development. Often, young people (and adults) struggle to put their thoughts and feelings into words, partly due to ongoing brain development.

For this reason, I incorporate creative resources wherever possible to help express emotions that may be difficult to articulate verbally. These may include sand tray work, clay, paint, Lego, dolls, music, and mask work.

In addition to private referrals, I also accept referrals from the care sector for looked-after children and offer consultation and support for care home staff.
